Bach’s festive scoring of his dramatic 1725 Easter Oratorio for orchestra and chorus tells the Easter story through four characters: Simon Peter, John the Apostle, Mary Magdalene and Mary Jacobe.

The Easter Oratorio provides the triumphant close to this concert which opens with Bach’s earliest cantatas for Easter Day, including some of the music he was to reuse in his immortal B Minor Mass.
