Tell me more about the work of Oxford Bach Soloists.
Founded by Tom Hammond-Davies in 2017 and currently directed by Steven Grahl, the Oxford Bach Soloists (OBS) is a Baroque ensemble offering a unique musical experience that converges composer, performer, and audience. OBS aims to perform Bach’s works as he himself would have realised them with performers, instruments, and venues that echo the university and churches of Bach’s hometown of Leipzig.
What are your future plans?
Oxford Bach Soloists originally set out to perform the complete vocal works of J.S. Bach over 12 years in chronological order. Over the past decade it has become much more, bringing world-class performances of Bach’s music, as well as that of his contemporaries, to Oxford, London, New York, and beyond. OBS is also continuing to provide promising young musicians with an essential stepping-stone into the professional world through our Choral and Continuo Scholarship schemes
2027 is OBS’s 10th anniversary, which will be marked with a landmark performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion. Your support is essential in reaching this milestone in a position of strength, ensuring Bach’s music continues to flourish in the heart of Oxford for the next ten years and beyond.
How will my support help Oxford Bach Soloists?
Your contribution supports the core activities that make our performances possible:
- ▪️Sustaining our regular series of concerts and rehearsals, ensuring our period-instrument players and soloists can continue to perform at the highest level.
- ▪️Maintaining our scholarship programme, which provides essential stipends and professional coaching for the country’s most promising young vocalists and keyboard players.
- ▪️Providing the stability required to commit to ambitious, large-scale projects like the 300th-anniversary performance of the St Matthew Passion planned for March 2027.
- ▪️Ensuring that our research and performance of Bach’s music remain a vibrant, permanent part of Oxford’s cultural heritage.
