Get to know the OBS Team working hard behind the scenes!

This is Louise Ashdown, our Concerts Officer.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.

I’m originally from Edmonton, Canada and came over to the UK 6.5 years ago to pursue a Master of Music in Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. I now work as a freelance singer and arts administrator for both OBS and the Corn Exchange theatre in Newbury. I also lead music sessions for parents and babies, as well as people living with dementia and their families/carers in and around Newbury.

How long have you been working with OBS and what has been a highlight?

I’ve been working as OBS’s Concerts Officer for almost exactly a year now! But I’ve been singing with OBS even longer, having been a Choral Scholar for the 2022/23 season and returning as an alumna to sing for concerts over the years. A highlight for me has been getting to know all the wonderful musicians that make up Oxford Bach Soloists.

What do you enjoy most about working with OBS?

There’s so much work that goes on behind the scenes to plan and promote concerts, so one of my favourite things is finally bringing everyone together and experiencing the collaborative rehearsal process.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I like getting out in nature, reading, working on my current crochet project, rock climbing, watching movies, and snuggling with my sweet tortoiseshell cat Luna.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention, talk about, plug, etc?

If you’d like to see what I’m up to as a singer, feel free to follow me on Instagram or Facebook!
